Louise Marny Muller wrote out of Santa Barbara with an ear for song, weather, gardens, mountains, and the Pacific edge. Vox Humana moves from private love and friendship toward war, democracy, home, and prayer; seven years later, Blue-Blossomed Garden turns more sharply toward California, carrying its speaker from sweet peas and April rain to Point Lobos, Yosemite, sequoias, and a long final address to the state itself. The facts of Muller’s life remain frustratingly scarce, but the books are not. This edition brings both collections together, resets them from the surviving scans, restores words lost in their faulty text layers, and keeps the original five-part design of Vox Humana and the extended sequences of the later book.
